Switzerland #2

Schmidt-Rubin Model 1889 Repeating Rifle

This was the first model in the Schmidt-Rubin series of repeating rifles. They are easily recognized by their 30.7" barrel, 12 round magazine with cut off function, and rear locking lugs. Like other rifles in this series, they have a straight pull bolt, grasping knob, and manual cocking ring. These rifles are chambered for the 7.5X53.5mm cartridge. I don't know of a place that loads this cartridge, but it can be hand loaded using 7.5X55 dies and standard 7.5X55 brass. The brass must be trimmed to size and the proper diameter bullet used. A Google search should get you all the info needed. About 212,000 rifles were manufactured from 1891 to 1897 by Eidgenossische Waffenfabrik in Bern, Switzerland.

All the rifles in this section were manufactured before 1899 and are classified as antiques. That means no FFL is required to receive these except where prohibited by local laws or regulations. Buyer must be at least 18 years old (check local regs). I do require a photo ID with the buyers name and address where the rifle will be shipped. A copy may be faxed, emailed, or snail mailed. Of course, an FFL will do too.
WARNING!
Do not use "7.5 Swiss" ammunition (also know as GP11 or 7.5X55mm) in these rifles! Although that cartridge will chamber in the M1889, it's different dimensions and higher pressure may cause catastrophic damage to the user and rifle.
